On October 30, 30 tons of “Big Red” pitayas from the Ledong Liguo Base of Hainan Fulin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. were loaded onto trucks and sent to Shenzhen Port, destined for Dubai (UAE) and Vancouver (Canada). This marks the first batch of fresh fruits exported to overseas markets since Ledong’s pitayas entered the peak production and sales season in the second half of this year.
On the afternoon of the same day, reporters saw at the sorting center of the pitaya planting base that workers were sorting, refrigerating, packing, and loading freshly picked fruits.
“Our exported pitayas from Ledong are irrigated with mountain spring water and grown using organic fertilizer technology to ensure healthy plants. The soil organic matter content reaches about 3%, meeting the requirements of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification,” said XIE Fulin, Chairman of Hainan Fulin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. The company currently cultivates approximately 1,100 mu (about 73.3 hectares) of pitayas in Ledong, with main varieties including “Soft-branch Big Red”. By building a smart agricultural data management platform that integrates various sensors for water, pump rooms, filters, humidity, temperature, etc., the company fully monitors the base’s planting conditions hourly and daily, and tracks the crops’ growth process in real time, ensuring higher anthocyanin content and better sweetness of the pitayas.
In recent years, Ledong has leveraged its local advantages to continuously upgrade pitaya quality, refine the industrial chain, and forge robust export channels. “With bright color and sweet taste, our pitayas have received booming orders from overseas markets. The considerable profit margin of pitayas exported to the UAE and Canada will greatly boost the enthusiasm of Ledong’s fruit farmers and significantly expand the sales market of Ledong pitayas,” XIE Fulin added. In the future, the company will continue to strengthen the construction of pitaya export bases and promote the standardized processes of exported pitayas to more growers, helping more pitayas go global and driving the green and high-quality development of Ledong’s agriculture.
